Hub of Acoustics
We are very happy to offer this service in collaboration with the team of Hub of Acoustics, a reality devoted to the dissemination of knowledge in modern luthiery formed by Simone Bonamoni, Andrea Corsini and Martino Quintavalla.
Simone and Andrea have years of experience with Wood ‘n’ Tones, a company dedicated to the crafting of high-quality acoustic guitar, as well as wood selection and characterization within the Abies Project.
Martino Quintavalla is a mandolin builder and an academic researcher in musical acoustics with expertise in wood characterization.
Density, Stiffness & SRC
Density is related to how easily a material can be accelerated, and it is widely used by luthiers to select and compare soundboards.
Stiffness indicates how a material resists to flexing and is a key factor for a soundboard, which must both vibrate efficiently and withstand the tension load of the strings.
SRC describes how efficiently the vibration of the strings is converted into sound radiation by the soundboard.
These figures can be used not only to select the wood but also to design soundboards following a physically informed approach.
