Durch die Thermo-Behandlung wird das Holz «karamellisiert», die Farbe wird etwas dunkler. Die Harze und Abbauprodukte der Hemicellulose sowie des Lignins verflüchtigen sich zum Teil. Deshalb werden die Resonanzdecken leichter und weisen nach der Thermo-Behandlung eine höhere Schallleitfähigkeit auf.
